Subject: High School Chess League - First event of the school year From: "John Hyltin" Date: Tue, September 12, 2017 8:02 am Hello, I would like to hold the first event of the High School Chess League on Wednesday, September 27. I have the Cafeteria reserved for that day at John Jay High School. The first round will start at 5:30pm (I hope), and the format is the same as in previous years, 15 minutes per side per game, and 4 games. That should allow the awards to wrap up before 8:00pm. This event is open to High School and Middle School. Please send your roster before you arrive, including school name, player first and last name, and indicate Division 1 (experienced) or Division 2 (Beginner). The event is free. In other news, I have retired from my regular job at USAA, and have a little more time to devote to this league and other chess adventures. I am working as a chess instructor in several schools around town, subcontracted through CompleteChessEducation.com. But I will continue to give away 1 free lesson to any school that just asks. If there is anything I can do to help your club prosper, please let me know. I was made aware this past week of a "coaching the coaches and sponsors" effort, but I don't have any details at this moment, and I think it is just in one school district. If you are interested in that, let me know and I will beg the providers to expand their audience limits, or we can organize something on our own. Finally, I have been elected to the office of Secretary to the Texas Chess Association, and I am continuing as the Director of Region 6 of the TCA. Region 6 includes San Antonio and Austin and numerous surrounding counties. To that point, I want to let you know the Scholastic Regional Championship will be held in San Antonio on February 24. This is a fabulous event and I really want to encourage you to bring your players for that. More details on that event can be found here - http://austinchesstournaments.com/events/803 J. P. Hyltin
